Background
Parlor & Patio is a curated music series in a house concert setting, that approached me to create a silkscreen printed concert posters for them to sell during intermission to help support the musician’s travel cost.Problem
I needed to take into the consideration of the silkscreen process when selected typography, line weight, and graphics. All needed to be strong enough to handle the emulsion removal stage of the process. The other challenge was posters were to be one to two colors to save on time and keep the cost down.Solution
I begin my design process by familiarizing myself with the musician and their music. As I listen to the music, I start to sketch out an idea from the vibe I get from the musician’s work. I then the recreate sketch into a vector format. Once I have my design in Adobe Illustrator, I separate the colors to create the negatives for the silkscreen process.Note
The Parlor and Patio posters are created by myself and my studio partner. We alternate concerts so each poster reflects the designer's style. This was important to the client when they approached us to create the posters. Although our styles differ there is one design element that we have incorporated into every design and that is a graphic image of the state of Kentucky.
Due to COVID-19, the Parlor and Patio Series has been temporarily put on pause.
