Background
Messmaker Life is a small pet boutique in Springboro, Ohio, that caters to the dogs we love by providing the best for them and their people. All products are handmade and organic. The Problem
The brand wanted a fun but sophisticated and high-end feel without coming across as buttoned up and stuffy. The client had some suggestions for colors but was open to other suggestionsThe Challenge
Was to create a brand identity to be used for print collateral, digital, and social media. The logo needed to be strong enough that the client could use it in her Cricut Explorer Air to create heat transfers, decals and window clings. My Process
Research: In my process, I conducted a zoom workshop to learn more about the company, their mission, and future goals. From the initial research and information, I gathered from the workshop I was able to sit down with my sketchbook and sketch to get ideas out of my head and down on paper. My Solution
For this design, I wanted to focus on inspiration for the name of the company. Inspiration for the illustration of the two dogs was taken from the stakeholder's two Labradoodles that she lovingly refers to as the messmakers. One of the dogs is larger than the other and is more ornery, hence the winking eye. The smaller one has lighter eyes and always has his tongue hanging out. The larger dog's head sits in between the two S. The head placement represents how he is never on the right side of the fence in their yard.
The first concept of the design which can be seen on business card I chose a serif typeface that was more classic and rotated the first E slightly to give it a more playful look. The client orignially wanted a buttoned up, but playful vibe for the brand.
The second concept I chost a font for "Messmaker" that had a more free-flowing handwritten look to show the playful side of the brand. The font selected for "Life" is more classic and sophisticated and reflects the other aspect of the brand.
The color palette is a lively mix of colors. The tennis ball changes colors based on the product on which it is placed.
